Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

  • Ground Beef: 1 pound, lean or regular
  • Cooked Rice: 2 cups (white, brown, or jasmine)

For the Sauce:

  • Soy Sauce: 1/4 cup (low-sodium preferred)
  • Brown Sugar: 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame Oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Minced Garlic: 2 cloves
  • Grated Ginger: 1 teaspoon
  • Red Pepper Flakes or Gochujang: 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to taste)

Optional Toppings:

  • Green Onions: Thinly sliced, for garnish
  • Sesame Seeds: For garnish
  • Fried Egg: One per bowl, optional
  • Kimchi: For an extra tangy kick
  • Steamed Vegetables: Broccoli, carrots, or snap peas

Instructions

  1. Cook the Rice
Begin by preparing 2 cups of rice. Follow the package instructions for white, brown, or jasmine rice. Once cooked, set aside and keep warm.
  2. Brown the Ground Beef
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into crumbles with a spoon. Drain excess fat, leaving a little for added flavor.
  3. Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together:

    • 1/4 cup soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
    • 2 minced garlic cloves
    • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
    • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes or gochujang (adjust for spice level).

Mix until the ingredients are fully combined.

  4. Combine Beef and Sauce
Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked ground beef in the skillet. Stir well to ensure the beef is fully coated. Let the mixture simmer for 2–3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  5. Assemble the Bowls
Spoon a generous portion of rice into individual serving bowls. Top with the savory ground beef mixture.
  6. Add Toppings
Garnish your bowls with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, or a fried egg. For extra flavor, add kimchi or steamed vegetables like broccoli or carrots.
  7. Serve and Enjoy
Serve your Korean Ground Beef and Rice Bowls immediately. Pair with a light side dish like a cucumber salad or miso soup for a complete meal.
