Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Optional: Chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, fresh fruit, or cinnamon sugar for toppings
Instructions
- Prepare the Batter
- In a medium bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until smooth and lump-free.
- Heat the Oil
- Pour 2-3 inches of vegetable or canola oil into a deep frying pan or pot.
- Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy to ensure even frying.
- Pipe the Fries
- Transfer the batter into a piping bag fitted with a wide round or star nozzle. Alternatively, use a zip-top bag with a corner cut off.
- Pipe 3-4 inch strips of batter directly into the hot oil.
- Fry to Perfection
- Fry the batter strips in small batches, cooking for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Dust and Serve
- Generously dust the warm funnel cake fries with powdered sugar.
- Serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, or fruit syrups.
